INNOVATION WITH LEDS IN ÉVORA

Aralab and ICAAM (Institute of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences from Evora University) are developing a joint research project with LED lights in mind. The aim of the project is to study and adapt the most recent LED light solutions to create a new benchmark for plant research applications.

Although LED technology has evolved a lot in recent years, for research applications there is still a legacy issue with traditional fluorescent cool-white lamps that will take some time to overcome. But that process already started worldwide.

Both Aralab and Evora University believe this is the time to develop and adapt LED lighting technologies for controlled environments that can be used for plant research and also help in agriculture sciences and vegetable production.

In the context of global climate change, with the need to reduce energy and water consumption – while the need for food supply continues to increase – being more intelligent and efficient in the way we use our resources is key.
