In 1978, a 16-year-old boy spent his summer holidays in his parents’ garden, obsessed with creating a machine capable of hatching eggs faster and more efficiently than their hens. When the chicks were born healthy, and in half the time, he went to his father and said: “Dad, I’m going to invent the world’s best climatic machines.” That little boy was João Araújo. Seven years later, he founded ARALAB.

ARALAB is officially born. At the time, the company provided only servicing for laboratory equipment installed in Portuguese institutions.

1986

1986

ARALAB gets its first order for a climatic chamber. The first ARALAB unit is installed at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon.

1995

1995

After hundreds of climatic chambers had been built and installed in Portugal, ARALAB took its first step abroad with a project for the University of Santiago de Compostela, in Spain. The first of many to come.

2005

ARALAB had built a strong reputation in Portugal and Spain as a high-quality manufacturer. Leading multinational companies were already using ARALAB equipment, and the company had already made sales beyond Southern Europe. There was no reason to stop.

ARALAB was growing steadily, but the economic crisis was taking hold in Europe, particularly in the southern countries, where most of ARALAB’s customers were located. Time to (re)think?

Great products, exclusive know-how and strong determination. ARALAB had them all. But how could the company succeed in a niche market already dominated by major players, in the midst of a financial crisis? Review its strengths, reposition the brand and redesign how the company was perceived.

Thirty years later, ARALAB is recognised as a leading manufacturer of climatic simulation equipment and one of the top players in terms of innovation, technical expertise and overall product quality. ARALAB chambers are installed in 40 countries across five continents, with local distributors in 35 countries. And growing.

By the end of 2020, ARALAB had reached the milestone of being present in 60 countries. The company has distributors and technical partners in more than 60 countries, representing the brand and providing support for ARALAB chambers across multiple geographies.

ARALAB evolves its governance model. Effective 1 January 2026, Luís Branco becomes CEO and leads a renewed Executive Team joined by the second generation: António Araújo, Chief Digital & Service Officer; Eduardo Coelho Araújo, COO; and João Cintra Araújo, Chief eXperience Officer. Founders João and Eduardo Araújo move into Non-Executive Director roles. This renewed leadership reinforces ARALAB’s ambition to become an international reference in climatic simulation and environmental testing, with a focus on innovation, growth and solutions that empower the scientific and industrial communities across multiple geographies.
