Today’s journey takes us to the C5Lab – Collaborative Laboratory – Sustainable Construction Materials Association, where the Aralab climatic chamber is used to simulate cement industry flue gases that are used to forced carbonate recycled aggregates from construction and demolition wastes which are sources to capture carbon dioxide (CO2). A research team from c5Lab is studying the capability of these recycled aggregates to capture CO2, preventing it from being emitted into the atmosphere. An adapted TESTA environmental chamber from Aralab was developed to provide the ideal temperature, humidity, and CO2 concentration conditions to do this process. After being carbonated, these recycled aggregates are incorporated in mortars and concretes replacing the natural aggregates, promoting the circular economy.
