HELPING FARMERS. FIGHTING CLIMATE CHANGE
We shared with SciMed (Asia) the delivery and installation of two environmental chambers at Syngenta Asia Pacific. Research aims to help farmers improve their livelihoods, addressing urgent challenges like climate change, soil erosion and biodiversity loss. We are grateful that our chambers offer value in the research work carried out to find solutions to deal with many challenges affecting crops and food security worldwide.
STABILITY TESTS HELP ON PHARMACEUTICAL PRODUCTS
Stability testing is a crucial step in ensuring the safety and efficacy of pharmaceuticals. This testing helps determine the shelf-life of a drug and ensures that it remains within its specified limits of quality, purity, and potency over time. By performing stability testing, pharmaceutical companies can be confident that the drugs they bring to market will provide the intended therapeutic effect to patients.
UNDERSTANDING BEES WITH ENVIRONMENTAL CHAMBERS
The Microbial Genomics and Symbiosis Lab research group of Intituto Gulbenkian de Ciência is using social bees as a model system to study the ecology, evolution and function of microorganisms. Social bees, including honey and bumble bees, possess a unique gut microbiota that is still poorly understood. The aim of the current research is to understand the function and natural history of these microbes. Understanding their relationship with their symbiotic gut microbes will help uncover ways to improve the health and aid conservation of these important insects. It is a joy to see the use of our environmental chambers in the research for better understanding of these insects. As prolific pollinators, bees are critical for sustaining natural ecosystems and human agriculture. We are looking forward to sharing news about this research soon!

The Mediterranean Institute for Agriculture, Environment and Development (MED) in Evora is using seeds and putting them to work for the environment. MED UEvora is using Aralab’s drying, storage and germination chambers, for their seed viability testing experiments, which are crucial for their research in restoring local flora, creating temporary Mediterranean ponds and rehabilitating habitats. Wonderful to see MED’s important work in preserving the beauty of our planet.

CUTTING EDGE OF SCIENCE
This month we were privileged to visit the Champalimaud Foundation, where Champalimaud Research is based. The goal of Champalimaud Research is to perform world-leading fundamental and translational research focused on the fields of neuroscience, physiology and cancer. The focus of our visit was the ‘Fly Platform’. A multi-room facility, central to all researchers using Drosophila as a model system. Equipped with 6 walk-in temperature and humidity-controlled chambers, 4 reach-in chambers, and a couple of cold storage rooms, the Fly Platform offers state of the art conditions for Drosophila breeding, maintenance and manipulation, supporting researchers in establishing, applying and developing advanced genetic methods. A big thank you to Dr. Isabel Campos and Catarina Ramos for letting us in this wonderful world of leading science, that aims to promote the health and well-being of humankind.
